Crenshaw Crossing was envisioned uniquely for this neighborhood, at this exact moment in the history of the Crenshaw Corridor.
With the Exposition Light Rail Line in operation for several years and the Crenshaw/LAX Light Rail Line coming in 2019, investing in transit-oriented community at this reinvented intersection was an easy choice.
After an extensive community outreach process as part of Metro’s Joint Development Program, Metro held an open call for proposals for this site and a team was selected to help realize a joint vision for Crenshaw Crossing.
Metro’s Joint Development Program
Metro’s Joint Development Program is a real estate development program through which the transit agency collaborates with local developers to build transit-oriented communities on Metro-owned properties as well as those owned by other public agencies. These sites are a gateway to the Metro transit system and hold unique potential to advance community development goals while attracting new riders to the Metro system.
To date, Metro has facilitated extensive community outreach where representatives listened to feedback from Crenshaw residents and business to help create the vision that has become Crenshaw Crossing. Residents shared their desires for more housing, more retail options including a healthy grocery story, more open space, safe transit access, opportunities for local artists, and a celebration of Crenshaw’s legacy. Crenshaw Crossing was developed with the community’s vision as its guide.
